What is Spiritual Direction?
We all seek meaningful connection: to ourselves, to the people in our lives, to our world, to our sense of what is bigger than all of that. It's part of being human.
Spiritual direction is about helping each person find the connection that is authentic for her or him. It is a practice of walking with a person as she / he discerns and learns from the lessons life brings.
Who Seeks Spiritual Direction?
People who are looking to make sense of a life-changing event. Perhaps you or a loved one have just had a major shift in health, work or a love relationship – maybe it's a change you're not welcoming with open arms. Yet you realize that this event is what it is, and you want to make the best of it by learning whatever this new direction has to offer.
People who notice that they want deeper connection in their lives, but do not have affiliation with a religious or spiritual tradition. Many of us have been wounded in religious communities, or have simply found their teachings too restrictive for our sense of what the Universe really has to offer. We have walked away from the traditions of our past, but now find ourselves longing for deeper meanings, fuller connections. Spiritual Direction is an excellent way to explore your true beliefs and embrace a sense of the Whole that is authentic to the person you are today.
People who are active in a religious tradition, but want to take that experience more fully into their lives. Your spiritual / religious life has the same trappings it has for years – you practice as you always have, participate in the community in your usual ways, and yet you're finding less satisfaction than you used to. Spiritual Direction can help you refresh your sense of the Holy, find your true connections, and move into a fuller relationship with the Divine.
